“Mamm…”

(A poem written for my mother in mother's day and which also won the best poem award in the Mother's day poem contest held in Capgemini)

You are referred to, by different names…
I call you “Mamm…”
The first word I learnt before entering the word game…
As I stepped out of the womb,
in a world of strangers,
I had absolutely no danger,
As I knew I was in a care as authentic as a ranger…
Mamm-you were my first companion!

When I was a fledgling,
You trained me to fly…
When I faced failure,
You showed me the sky
& asked me to try but 1 more time,
Making patience & perseverance my friends for life…
You stood by me throughout, till the dark clouds vanished
& gifted me with virtues that would remain garnished…
Mamm-I am your reflection!

When I look into your sparkling eyes,
I could see a light of unbounded love,
A heart of pure gold,
A support that has made me bold,
An enthusiasm that has made me strong 3 folds,
It’s a feeling that cannot be told…
Mamm-you are my wealth!

Be it sunshine or rain,
Whenever I was in pain,
I could see you drain,
With all your energy spent to help me regain,
Mamm-you are an effigy of God in my fane!

Having you in my life is the biggest gift ever
Which I would cherish forever…
All my love starts and ends at you…
Mamm-I love you!

A feeling that transforms a woman to a mère (mother in French),
A feeling that has no name,
A relation that sees no religion or terrain,
A love that is beyond the worldly endearment,
It is the relation between a mother and a child…
